What is Grassroots about???

Do you loathe in the increase in fees? Have you wondered how you can cut part of your tuition? It is all possible if the Middle Class Scholarship Plan passes.

What is the Middle Class Scholarship? This is a plan advocated by Speaker John Perez, which states that tuition will be nearly 2/3.

ASUCI’s Executive-Vice President is holding a five-week Grassroots Volunteer program which students can be part of the biggest political campaigns for higher education. You will familiarize yourself to organize town hall meetings, rallies, petition gathering, and other useful skills.

For more information on the Middle Class Scholarship, go to the rally and public forum on Thursday, May 24th.

On Tuesday, April 17th, student volunteers and one of the head organizers, Beatrice Montenegro, were making calls to the Senate Appropriations Committee to try to get a vote in AB 889 (a vote that would improve the domestic work force). The goal of that day was to make at least 200 calls.

College student struggs.

This one goes out to all my fellow first years, (or really anyone who feels a bit lonely despite being surrounded by thousands of people on a daily basis).

For those of you who have been homesick, stressed out and find yourself sitting around just reflecting on life a lot more than you should be, I feel your pain. Of course, I don’t have the luxury of curing my homesickness with a weekend visit, so please take the time to be thankful and know that I envy you. (Out of state student sad life syndrome-_-),

Coming into my first year, I thought adjusting would be easy peasy with the hundreds of on campus organizations at my fingertips. But I quickly found out it was wayyy easier said than done and I was juggling a LOT more than just my Monday-Thursday class schedule.

Dealing with a long distance relationship with my family, pets and friends was def. hard, followed by long nights of writing HumCore papers, looking for jobs, and just feeling the overall pressure of being in college.

I guess the point of this post is to not only vent or rant a bit about my own first year anxieties, but to let others that may be feeling a bit lost themselves know they’re not alone!

I’ve realized that even though I didn’t get to do ALL the things I wanted to my first year, hell I have 3 more to go!! These past two quarters have been interesting to say the least and with the last 10 weeks of my first year coming into full swing, I’m experiencing very bittersweet feelings.

Anyone else feel the same??

Anywho, GL w/spring quarter eaters!
